Sara Jane and her husband Hugh live on Dundee Farm in Sedalia Colorado about 45 minutes south of Denver at the edge of the foothills to the Rocky Mountains. Sara Jane first encountered alpacas in 1971 while living in South America. Dundee Farm was established in 1997 and has a standing herd of about 25 alpacas and 3 breeding studs. Dundee Farm specializes in high quality colored alpacas.
Sara Jane received her AOBA Judge certification after five years of study and serving as an apprentice at 7 shows. She continues to attend classes and seminars for fleece, conformation, and halter and has had the privilege of working with some of the industries most respected experts and judges. She has judged both halter and fleece shows across the country and in Canada, and has conducted numerous seminars.
Sara Jane takes an active role in the alpaca industry and is Chair of the Alpaca Breeder's of the Rockies' Camelid Health program, which has raised over $45,000 for the local veterinary teaching hospital and for special training of camelid vets.
Sara Jane is an urban designer and specializes in redevelopment of downtowns and urban areas. Her practice is largely in the Western United States, but she has worked in South America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. Hugh is from England and is a builder, which has come in handy on the farm. He is currently involved in wind energy development. Their son Andrew is in his final year of medical school and claims that having alpacas is the best "girl bait" that there is.
