Jill MacLeod

Jill MacLeod lives near High River, Alberta, Canada with her husband Art and two daughters, Rachel and Emma. Jill has been involved in the Alpaca industry since 1991 with the start of their breeding operation, Aztec Alpacas. The MacLeods maintain a herd size of approximately 50 Huacayas as well as raising range fed beef cattle and pure bred Limousins. When required, their farm also operates as a federal Alpaca import/export quarantine facility.

Jill has had a lifelong interest in textiles and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Textiles in 1987. She pursued additional fibre training through the International School of Fibres (Australia) and in 2004 was certified as one of three Camelid Fibre Classers in North America. Jill has overseen product development for the Canadian Camelid Fibre Cooperative for several years and is currently the acting chairman on the board of directors. Jill has also served as a past director of the Canadian Alpaca Association.

Jill began judging Alpaca halter and fleece in 2001 after training with the International Alpaca Judging School in Peru. She continued, completing the AOBA judge training program and is a Senior AOBA judge and judge trainer in both fleece and halter. In addition to Canadian shows, alpaca judging assignments have taken Jill across the United States from California to New York, as well as international assignments in Germany, England, France, Australia and New Zealand.
